With only three outings remaining, the pressure is officially on. CURRENT STANDINGS HERE!
The league rolled into Lapeer Country Club knowing every point matters from here on out, and while Bachert didn't have his flashiest performance of the season, he once again did what leaders do—he stayed on top. Bachert continues to wear the target on his back, but the pack behind him is getting uncomfortably close.
Meanwhile... somebody may want to check on Mojica.
After spending most of the season looking down at everyone from the top of the leaderboard, Nick continues to slide back toward the field. The practice rounds are still piling up, but lately the leaderboard hasn't been nearly as cooperative. The rest of the league would like to thank him for finally acting like the rest of us.
One thing was clear Sunday—good golf was everywhere.
A whopping 25% of the league posted 37 total points, including Stone, Clauson, Vitt, Doyle, Isaacson, and Keelan. Apparently everyone got the memo that the season is entering crunch time.
But even that wasn't enough.
Mark Mulder quietly put together a fantastic 38-point round before Roland Metivier said, "Hold my beer," posting the high total of the week with 39 points. Roland earns himself another trip to the prize table.
The highest actual score of the day belonged to Mike Stone, who racked up an impressive 25 points. Stone has quietly been climbing the standings week after week, and he's now one of several players breathing down Bachert's neck.
Speaking of charging...
Stone (25), Clauson (23) , Mike Martin (19), and Vitt (22) are all making serious moves up the leaderboard. Don't forget about McClain, quietly doing his thing and still very much in the hunt. Doyle also had a nice round (37pts) and is climbing. If Bachert was hoping for an easy stroll to the championship, he may want to check his rearview mirror—because this thing is far from over.
Now for this week's "How is this even possible?" award...
Cresso managed to score 7 points... all on the front nine (3 of those from a birdie)... followed by a giant goose egg on the back. That's right... ZERO. Has anyone in EGI history ever managed to put together a scorecard quite like that? Historians are currently reviewing the archives. If anyone knows, let us know. That's the kind of stat ESPN would run a 30-for-30 on.
Over on the forward tees, Pie discovered that moving up a set of tee boxes doesn't automatically guarantee a great round. Even with the ladies' tees, he could only muster 28 total points. Sometimes golf is just golf.
Then there was Nick Vitt, who reminded everyone that golf can occasionally resemble a contact sport.
On the short par 4, Vitt absolutely launched a drive onto the green... while the group ahead was still putting. To his credit, he did yell "FORE!" Unfortunately, he forgot one tiny detail... waiting for the green to clear first. There was a late apology so it's all good. Just know - yes you can hit it 300yds - wait for the green!
One guy who was firing at flags all day was Isaacson, who walked away with two Closest-to-the-Pin victories while also putting together one of the better rounds of the week. Safe to say Ike had the irons dialed in.
Closest-to-the-Pin honors went to Isaacson (2), Vitt and Leake (tie), Clauson, and Cesaro.
The Skins Game winners were Bachert, Bissonnette, Cesaro, Vitt, Marko, Glavin, K-Mart, and Stone, proving once again that one great hole can make for a pretty good day.
Next stop...
Moose Ridge.
With only three outings left, every point is becoming more valuable, the leaderboard is tightening by the week, and the race for the EGI Championship is shaping up to be one heck of a finish.
Buckle up... it's about to get interesting.
