WEEK 5 RECAP & STANDINGS

Week 5 Recap – Sugarbush
Week 5 Recap – Sugarbush

For most of the league, the biggest challenge of Week 5 wasn't the golf course... it was surviving the hour-plus pilgrimage to Sugarbush. Somewhere around mile 47, guys started questioning whether they were headed to a golf outing or relocating.

Coming into the day, Mojica held the top spot in the standings. As everyone knows, the man plays 6 practice rounds at the course of play prior to the actual outing, so expectations were sky high. While it wasn't one of his trademark rounds, he still managed to grind out 14 points, proving that even on an "off" day he's tough to knock off.

The real fireworks came from The Two Joshes.

Josh Leake put together the best actual round of the day among the regular tee boxes, firing 23 actual points plus his 17-point handicap, and he posted a week-high total of 40 points. The reward? A one-shot haircut to his handicap and a huge leap up the leaderboard.

Not to be outdone, Josh Marko matched the magic number from a completely different angle. Marko carded 17 actual points (personal best this season), combined them with his 23 handicap, and also finished with 40 total points. Apparently the handicap committee liked what they saw too, because Marko's number dropped two strokes— now (+21) the biggest decrease of the week.

Meanwhile, Kevin Bachert continued his strong play, sitting second entering the week, Bachert delivered another strong performance with 22 actual points and a 36-point total, enough to leapfrog Mojica and take over the league lead after five weeks.

Now... technically the highest actual score of the day belonged to Pie, who racked up 25 points. But since he tee's it up from the ladies' tees, league officials have once again placed a giant asterisk next to the accomplishment. Congratulations... we guess but he should be getting 30 points a week.

Honorable mentions - Mike Martin (22), Mike Stone (23), Clauson (20) and J Mac (20) all nice rounds. Way to go fellas!

The result? Another major shakeup atop the standings. Bachert now sits alone in first, Pie climbs into second, Mojica slips to third, and the race is tightening with several players within striking distance as we head into the second half of the season.

The side games were just as competitive.

Josh Leake and Jason Doyle (after he found the right course - SUGARBUSH, NOT Moose Ridge - LOL) won the TWO MAN Throwdown with a combined total score of 75pts - since Josh had the highest total score he will get first pick out of the prize pool - Jason will get 2nd pick and since Josh Marko also had a 40 total for high man of the week he will get a crack at a 3rd pick from the prize pool! Runner up with 74 combined pts was, PIE (38) and Edwards (36) - you guys get a big close...but no cigar, you got enough of our money!

Closest-to-the-Pin winners were Isaacson, Edwards, Stone, and Marko, proving that precision still pays.

The Skins Game handed out plenty of cash as Edwards stole two skins with two very nice BIRDIES, while Vitt (seems to take our money every week - fuck you Nic for sponsoring him), Marko, Stone, Bachert, Isaacson, M. Martin, and Leake each claimed one of their own.

Five weeks down... four to go.

The leaderboard is tightening, handicaps are moving, and with every outing the margin for error gets smaller. If Sugarbush taught us anything, it's that one great round can change the season—and nobody's lead is safe. Nice shooting fellas - see you at Lapeer!
